About the San Diego Film Foundation

The San Diego Film Foundation is an educational 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to support the art of independent filmmaking by developing stimulating film-related events throughout the year.

San Diego Film Foundation Patron Circle Members are an elite group of business leaders, successful artists and entrepreneurs, philanthropists and influential community advocates. most importantly, they understand the power of film to educate, influence culture, and as well, entertain. 

Patron Circle Members provide the means for FOCUS, the Foundation’s year-round student educational program in local schools including classroom screenings with filmmakers, artistic residencies, and student film projects.

The cornerstone of the San Diego Film Foundation is the San Diego International Film Festival (SDiFF). The SDiFF presents studio premieres, the best in independent filmmaking and extraordinary panel discussions with filmmakers that will inspire, entertain, educate, transform, and stimulate conversation among film lovers.

From OCT 4 – 8, 2017, the 16th Annual San Diego Int’l Film Festival presents 100+ films, industry panels, parties and red carpet events at two locations: The Gaslamp Quarter in the heart of downtown San Diego and the beautiful seaside community of La Jolla. 

The San Diego Film Festival:

  • 2016 premieres included: Lion, Denial, Other People, Trespass Against Us, Burn Your Maps, Julieta, The Eagle Huntess and many more
  • 2015 premieres included: Septembers of Shiraz starring Adrien Brody, Youth, He Named Me Malala, ROOM, I Smile Back, Go With Me, The Dark Horse, Goosebumps, and many more.
  • 2014 premieres included: Wild, The Imitation Game, St. Vincent, Whiplash, The Good Lie, Mr. Turner, and many more.

OUR MISSION

The Mission of the San Diego Int’l Film Festival is to elevate the art visual storytelling by:
o Produce an annual film festival to showcase independent and studio films
o Develop stimulating film-related events throughout the year
o Support and nurture student filmmaking programs in local schools
o Support the development of the local San Diego filmmaking industry
o Enhance the economic growth of San Diego through arts and cultural tourism

Vision

Our vision is two-fold:  To build community among film lovers in San Diego and grow the San Diego Film Festival as a significant contributor to San Diego’s economy. To build community around the art of visual storytelling, the San Diego InternationalFilm Festival presents the viewing of films and discussions with filmmakers that inspire, entertain, educate, transform and stimulate conversation among film lovers.  Additionally, the San Diego Int’l Film Festival actively supports development of future filmmakers and promotion of San Diego’s filmmaking industry.  A film festival, done right, is more than glitz, glamour and paparazzi. It’s a serious economic superstar that supports jobs, generates tax revenue, gains significant media exposure for the host city and brings revenue to local businesses. The San Diego Int’l Film Festival has a bold vision to continue to position the San Diego Int’l Film Festival as a significant independent film festival set in one of the world’s finest cities – and a worthy travel experience for film lovers.
