A savory feast for the eyes and palate, Culinary Cinema is a curated experience pairing the food based documentary, ANTS ON A SHRIMP, with celebrated local chefs serving up a delicious food and wine pairing. A Q&A will follow each screening. Select from two screening times – each followed by a food and wine pairing immediately after the film.

THE FILM

This food-filled documentary will offer a glimpse into the mind of one of the world’s most influential chefs and his international team, as they undertake one of the biggest challenges of their careers.

In January 2015, Noma, recognized 4 times as the Worlds Best Restaurant, and led by its charismatic chef René Redzepi, moved its entire team from Denmark to Tokyo Japan. Known for his one-of-a-kind cooking and for distilling the Danish landscape, and time and place onto a plate, can Redzepi and his team apply their philosophy to an entirely foreign experience, using ingredients that they’ve never seen before, all whilst under the intense pressure and scrutiny that comes with running the worlds best restaurant?

ChefestebanExecutive Chef Phillip Esteban
The Cork and Craft
Executive Chef Phillip Esteban has earned a wealth of experience born from an absolute dedication to his art. Phillip’s professional career began at Culinary Arts from the Arts Institute of San Diego. Soon after, he helped open The Guild, then served as opening sous chef for Craft and Commerce, and assisted opening Tender Greens locations. Phillip spent his time in Manhattan’s pressure cooker, working at the preeminent David Chang’s Momofuku Ssäm Bar.  He also did stages in many of NYC’s most renowned restaurants, including Persé, Sorrela, wd~50, and Marea. Phillip returned to Southern California and worked at Nine Ten La Jolla. His most recent venture was helping launch The Cork and Craft — a perfect place for Phillip to share the exciting techniques learned on his bicoastal journey.

Crudo
Chef Pascal is a world renowned chef launched his culinary career in the esteemed kitchens of some of Europe’s most distinguished Michelin-star restaurants and been in the restaurant industry for more than 25 years. The Belgian-born chef has had a distinguished career, and set down roots here in San Diego with his latest venture, Crudo. He has cooked for numerous dignitaries, including Oscar de la Renta, Princess Stephanie of Monaco, Bill and Hillary Clinton as well as President Obama.

Sycuan Casino
Executive Chef Paul Schwab is the culinary mind behind the diversity of menus for Sycuan Resort and Sycuan Casino’s Wachena Falls café, Paipa’s buffet, GameDay Grill, Resort’s Café and Grille and the many food outlets at the casino as well as prominent catered events. Arriving here 20 years ago he considers himself a local for the cuisine and adds his own flare to signature dishes for the resort and casino that keep his passion alive for cooking. They were awarded by the San Diego Opera “For Cuisine Worthy of the Gods.”

Executive Chef Deborah Scott
Cohn Restaurant Group
One of San Diego’s most renowned celebrity chefs, Deborah Scott is known for her diverse tastes and ability to create innovative dishes with an emphasis on presentation. Chef Scott partnered with Cohn Restaurant Group in 1995 and is at the helm of the kitchens for Indigo Grill, Vintana, Island Prime & C Level, and the newest bayside stunner, Coasterra. Chef Scott was named “Chef of the Year” in 2012 by U-T San Diego and has been awarded with multiple accolades for “Best Chef in San Diego” by San Diego Magazine, 944 Magazine, San Diego Home & Garden Magazine and the California Restaurant Association. Chef Scott has appeared in Condé Nast Traveler, Sunset Magazine, Food & Wine Magazine and Nation’s Restaurant News.
