Learn the day-in, day-out of planning a film festival with internship positions in programming, special events, marketing, development and community outreach, etc.
Our internships begin at various times throughout the year until November 2024. You must be 18 years or older to apply. 21 years or older internships for certain departments. In order to receive college credit, resume credit or job credit you must hold the internship position for 4 or more months. Some internships are longer depending on the department.
MARKETING ASSISTANT INTERNSHIP (Feb/March start)
The San Diego International Film Festival is looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and organized Integrated Marketing Assistant Intern. If you are interested in an opportunity to build experience and learn about all aspects of marketing then this is the internship for you! From the strategy stages, to content development through a fully integrated plan of execution you will receive broad experience in all aspects of integrated marketing.
Areas of work will include: planning/strategy, content development, online programs, email, social media planning and execution, and opportunities to learn about media placement and strategy.

SOCIAL MEDIA INTERNSHIP (Feb/March start)
The San Diego International Film Festival is looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and organized Social Media Intern. If you love the internet and want to gain important experience as a social media marketer then this is the internship for you! You will have the opportunity to develop content, post and analyze data.
Qualifications
- Experience & understanding of Instagram, Facebook, Linkden, TikTok
- Willingness to learn how to develop a content calendar and produce content across a variety of social media platforms
- Ability to collect and analyze data across platforms and work with Director of Marketing to optimize content
- Interest in developing and posting Video Content
- Interest in understanding and analyzing digital audiences

VIDEOGRAPHER/EDITOR INTERNSHIP (March/April start)
Working in the Marketing Department
Responsibilities:
- Attending festival events/fundraisers to shoot B-Roll and interviews
- Edit web videos and social clips
- Create social media videos
- Organize Youtube/Vimeo pages

FILM OFFICE INTERNSHIP (March/April start)
Working in the Programming Department to ensure the filmmaking experience with the festival is the highest. This is a fast paced Department that is willing to step in and help in any capacity.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate programming meetings and conference calls
- Assist in programming monthly film event
- Assist with General promotions related to programming
- Assist with writing and organizing program content
- Working to solicit films prior to the festival
- The Filmmaker Liaison is the primary conduit between the foundation and the filmmaker prior to the festival
- The Filmmaker Liaison will insure that the filmmaker’s needs are met and that all terms agreed to are delivered in a timely manner
- Working with filmmaker to insure all promotional materials are distributed fairly in the theater lobby
- Meeting the filmmaker during the festival to insure they are having an excellent experience and are pleased with the exposure

OFFICE ASSISTANT / CUSTOMER SERVICE INTERNSHIP (March/April start)
This person needs to be organized, detailed oriented, good communication skills, able to use Word, Google Drive, Powerpoint, etc.
Responsibilities:
- Answers or redirects phone calls and messages
- Answers or redirects general email inquiries
- Provides general office support
- Supports year-round Festival events
- Coordinate meetings and/or conference calls
- Manage schedules

EVENTS COORDINATOR INTERNSHIP (April start)
Working in the Programming Department to ensure the filmmaking experience with the festival is the highest. This is a fast paced Department that is willing to step in and help in any capacity.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing the Festival Screening Committee and meeting them to hand off screener copies to them
- Soliciting films prior to the festival
- Work with Director of Programming and Festival Producer to help notify winners after Jury announcement for respective sections
- Assist in notifying all filmmakers of acceptance by the Festival
- Coordinate programming meetings and conference calls
- Assist in programming monthly film event
- Coordinate all film materials before, during and after the festival
- Assuring festival exhibition copy arrives on time and is returned promptly to the correct address

TRANSPORTATION COORDINATOR (August start)
Under the direction of the Festival Events Manager, the intern will observe and assist with various projects assigned by the San Diego Int’l Film Festival Event Management department.
- Manage vendors and schedules for on-site events
- Manage events schedules
- Work through city permitting or any other on-site permitting for the Festival
- Build event schedules and timing of vendor arrival, etc.
- On-site for the events and executing day of with the Festival Events Manager
Needs to be able to lift over 20 pounds and be able to be on feet for an extended period of time.
